IGA Express & Mini

IGA Express is a new concept of 24-hour convenience store with gas station launched with great fanfare in 2013 with a first store in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, in the Quebec City area.

The concept is a hybrid model between a grocery store, convenience store and fast food outlet. The brand targets people in a hurry, on the road, on the go, but who still want to eat well. Passing the door of an IGA Express, the customer will find fresh fruits sold by unit. Nor far, a ready-to-eat counter with raw vegetables and dip in a container that can fit into the cup compartment of the car. Also, soups and salads meal with integrated tray. Not to mention the core concept, namely a section called “ready in 20 minutes”, where rushed customers can pick up a chicken breast to grill, the right salad dressing, the broccoli that goes well with and why not, a bottle of wine and a baguette.

Sobeys said it wants to invest $ 100 million in the adventure over the next five years. In 2013, there were 10 to 15 new such establishments per year across the province, with an opening planned for the Montreal region in January (source: La Presse and Le Soleil). To date however, three years later, only 11 IGA Express and 9 IGA Mini have been opened and the trend does not seem to be accelerating.
