Marché Adonis

Owned partly by Metro, the Marché Adonis banner focuses on Middle Eastern, Lebanese and Mediterranean food. The concept proposes an exotic variety of foods “that will make your taste buds salivate as you stroll through our aisles full of flavors and experience our counters filled with culinary delights”, says their website.

The banner was founded by the brothers Elie and Jamil Cheaib who came to Montreal in 1976. Originally from Damour, a coastal city in Lebanon, they were entrepreneurs at heart and gifted with some business acumen. In 1979, they acquired a small 1,000 square foot store on Faillon Street, at the corner of Lajeunesse Street in Montreal. Then, from 1984 to 2004, they opened new stores and expanded existing ones. Finally, in October 2011, Adonis signed a partnership agreement with Metro, but the brothers Elie and Jamil Cheaib and Georges Ghrayeb continue to manage Adonis independently in order to maintain the established family business philosophy.

The Adonis experience can be felt, of course, through the quality of the products offered in well-stocked displays, but above all thanks to the people behind the counters who support a genuine sensory journey in gastronomy. Living the Adonis experience, according to their owners, is a bit like “moving to a zouk in the Middle East, a grocery store with a thousand treasures, an Ali Baba cave of food”.

Type of Franchise

All Marché Adonis are owned and operated by the founders and Metro and are not yet open to franchising.
