Super Relais

The Super Relais c-store banner is at the heart of an extensive network of franchised gas stations operated by Suncor Energy, which owns the well-known Petro-Canada gasoline brand.

The operation of a Petro-Canada Super Relais service station is based on the commission agent model. Petro-Canada provides real estate, equipment and ownership of gasoline inventories. The independent store operator employs the staff, agrees to operate according to Petro-Canada‘s standards and is paid a commission based primarily on store revenues to manage the store. Both parties pay commissions based on sales and various forms of rent.

Petro-Canada stations that are not the Super Relais banner are mostly franchised stations where the operator is also the owner of gasoline inventories, and at that time it is not Petro-Canada which determines the daily price at the pump.

Type of Franchise

The purchase of a Petro-Canada retail establishment requires a significant investment of money. The total investment can be up to $ 220,000, depending on the size of the facility and its location. The required investment includes:

  • A fuel security deposit – depending on the size of the facility;
  • Working capital – payroll, supplies, services and other start-up costs;
  • Institutional inventories – by size of establishment;
  • License fees for the first month of operation or five months of rental;
  • Purchase of equipment, office equipment and supplies.

Suncor is looking for energetic, hands-on individuals who are service oriented and possess strong leadership skills. Petro-Canada core offerings include fuel, convenience items, coffee and may also include a car wash or an A&W quick-serve restaurant. All details are described here.
