Min. Wage Increased to $12.50 on May 1st

On May 1, 2019, the minimum wage will increase from $12 to $12.50 per hour, an increase of $0.50 or 4.2%.

The minimum hourly earnings of workers therefore continue to rise much faster than inflation which remains confined to around 2%.

For a convenience store owner who hires an average of 1.5 worker at any time of the year, this represents an increase of about $5,000 in wages.

Since 2015, the minimum wage has increased by almost 25% while inflation, by 4% hardly.
